To address the emerging need for training and information about appropriate physical activity programs for older adults, researchers and adult education specialists at the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging  (CCAA) developed the Seniors' Fitness instructors Course (SFIC) . It 's a certification program for those who would like to design and lead effective fitness classes for mature adults.  

This intensive certification program meets the International Curiculum Guidelines for Preparing Physical Activity Instructors of Older Adults recognized by ICAPA and WHO. It has been rigorously developed by academic researchers and experts in the field of physical activity and aging.

The CCAA, founded in 1996, is Canada's leader in current research and program development for improved physical ability and healthy aging for mature adults. It's a not-for-profit national research and education centre within the Faculty of Heath Sciences at Western University.*

The CCAA is unique in Canada as it promotes physical activity and the well-being of mature adults through a combination of basic and applied research, educational resources and community-based programs. Leadership training courses for individuals who work with the aging Canadian population are conducted by researchers and graduate students at Western's Faculty of Health Sciences as well as off-campus at the Mount Annex in London, Ontario.

Our fitness instructors hold the SFIC designation.
